Dontre Wilson, the all-purpose running back out of Desoto, Texas, has changed his mind on his upcoming college destination. Late Monday night, Wilson flipped his decision from Oregon to Ohio State according to multiple reports. The running back’s commitment to play for the Ducks next season has been in doubt since Chip Kelly decided to fly to the NFL.
Wilson was unstoppable last season in the state of Texas. He rushed for almost 1900 yards and accumulated a total of 48 touchdowns in a 15-game span.
While no loss ever goes unnoticed in the cut-throat business known as the recruiting game, new head coach Mark Helfrich shouldn’t be too discouraged with the loss of Wilson.
Oregon recently picked up Kani Benoit, a three-star back out of Arizona, and still have Aloha high school product Thomas Tyner. According to Yahoo sports, Tyner is the number two running back in the 2013 recruiting class. Not to be overlooked is the inevitable impact that freshman running back Byron Marshall expects to have in the Ducks back field next season.
While the loss of Dontre Wilson to undefeated Ohio State is disappointing to all Duck fans, it shouldn’t be too terrible come signing day.
